Seat & Berth Finder

Identify lower, middle, upper or side berth from coach and seat number.

Privacy firstEnglish and हिंदी

Enter an allocated berth number to check its type in a matching standard coach pattern.

Match the capacity and numbering with your actual coach. These are selected standard patterns, not every Indian Railways coach. No PNR is needed. WL/12 is a waiting position, not berth 12.

SL in a berth label means Side Lower; SL as a travel class means Sleeper. This tool does not check vacancy, confirmation, coach position or berth entitlement.

Seat & Berth Finder: how to use the result

Berth 7 means different things in different patterns

In the selected eight-berth Sleeper/3A pattern, 7 is side lower and 8 is side upper. In the six-berth 2A pattern, 7 starts the next bay as a lower berth and 8 is upper. Select the matching pattern before entering the number. This explains why a seat number without the class is not enough.

WL and RAC numbers are not berth allocations

Use the allocated berth number shown for the individual passenger. WL/12 is a waiting position; it does not identify berth 12. Likewise, a RAC queue number is not a numbered berth. A finder result cannot confirm a ticket or grant travel permission. Read the passenger’s current official allocation.

Can this find a Chair Car window seat?

Not reliably without the exact coach layout. CC, 2S, 1A, 3E and special variants are deliberately not decoded with a universal formula. Select Other / unsure and check the official map. If the printed berth type differs from this illustration, follow the official allocation and ask the TTE about any discrepancy.
