Waitlist Guide: how to use the result
Compare the same passenger over time
Record the booking label and the current label for each passenger. A movement from WL/15 to WL/8 shows a change in position, not a guaranteed final outcome. Different quotas are not one shared queue, so a smaller number in another category is not a reliable comparison.
Check the complete ticket after charting
For an e-ticket on which all passengers remain waitlisted after charting, IRCTC’s published rule does not permit boarding. Mixed-status bookings need separate consideration. Do not infer travel authority from a colour, prediction or an old screenshot.
Keep a usable fallback
Compare another departure, class or station before the day becomes time-critical. Include the cost and time of reaching a different station. If a later journey would miss your appointment, choose the alternative based on that deadline rather than a hoped-for upgrade.

RailQ is an independent travel utility. Live results depend on provider availability, and the official railway record remains the final authority.
