Practical journey guide

Mumbai Terminals: CSMT, LTT, MMCT, BDTS

Identify four Mumbai railway terminals, avoid confusing suburban stops with long-distance boarding points and plan the complete station transfer.

01

Match the terminal name and code

CSMT is Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus; LTT is Lokmanya Tilak Terminus; MMCT is Mumbai Central; BDTS is Bandra Terminus. A ticket to or from Mumbai does not make these interchangeable. Read the boarding field before choosing transport or accommodation.

02

Bandra Terminus is not simply “Bandra”

Give a driver the full terminal name and railway code. A suburban station, locality and long-distance terminus can share a familiar place name without sharing an entrance. The same caution applies when a map search suggests a nearby local stop for LTT. Check the final road or walking segment instead of assuming a local train drops you at the long-distance platform.

03

Choose a train using the total trip cost

Compare the ticket fare together with the cost and time to reach the terminal. A cheaper fare from a distant departure point may not save money after transfers. If arriving by air, confirm the airport terminal and the actual ground route. Avoid relying on a standard taxi fare or one fixed airport-to-station time.

04

Changing terminals with luggage

Plan around the slowest traveller and the number of bags. If using suburban transport, check the service direction, destination and access route before entering a crowded train. Leave time for stairs, queues and the final transfer. Recheck the onward service’s station code after every change in the plan.

05

At the correct terminal

Use the train number on station displays to find the current platform, then locate the coach. A correct terminal does not guarantee an old platform prediction. Set a meeting point away from platform edges and let the person collecting you know the exit only after you have confirmed it.
