Both names refer to approaches to NDLS
Ajmeri Gate and Paharganj describe different sides of New Delhi railway station, not two interchangeable taxi destinations. First confirm that your ticket says NDLS. If it says DLI, NZM or ANVT, you need another railway station, not a different entrance to New Delhi.
Arriving by Metro
DMRC documents the New Delhi Metro connection on the Yellow and Airport Express lines, with an Ajmeri Gate-side skywalk connection. Check the live Metro route and operating hours for your journey. The 2022 skywalk notice explains the connection but cannot guarantee today’s access restrictions, lift operation or crowd conditions. Follow current signs and staff directions.
Arriving by cab or meeting someone
Send the station name, chosen side and a specific permitted meeting point to the driver. If you are staying near Paharganj, compare the actual walking or road route rather than changing your destination to Ajmeri Gate automatically. For a pickup, wait until you know which side you will exit. A message saying only “outside the station” is easy to misunderstand.
An entrance does not guarantee your platform
Check the train display after entering and leave time to reach the assigned platform. Do not choose a side solely from an old platform prediction. With a wheelchair, pram or heavy luggage, ask about the usable step-free route before committing to a staircase. Accessibility planning is part of reaching the coach, not only reaching the station boundary.
For a train-to-flight connection
Include getting off the train, reaching the Metro or road pickup, airport-terminal access and the airline’s check-in deadline. An airport train connection does not erase the risk of a delayed incoming railway service. Check the airport terminal you need and keep an alternative if a delay would make the onward journey impractical.
